Hi guys!
With the world being in the state it is, I’m thankful to say, I’m one of the lucky one. I’m currently working from home, which I’m loving. I’m borrowing trouble by dreading the day when I have to move back to the office. My house is staying pretty clean and I’m feeling very Zen. I am, however, feeling a bit creatively stifled and I haven’t been writing near as much as I would normally.
For the last six weeks due to a stay at home order, I’ve only left the apartment to go to the grocery store about once a week. All the groups I’m a part of are on hold for the time being. All the museums and art galleries and breweries and restaurants were closed. I live in the middle of some of the best hiking territory in the country and the state was urging people to stay off the trails. My favorite mountain pass drives are still closed due to snow. And of course, no farmer’s markets. Nearly everything that I do to recharge my creative batteries isn’t possible at the moment, so I’m SOL until things get back to normal.
Some stuff has re-opened as I’m writing this. Social distancing is still being enforced, and we are still being urged to travel only when necessary. I did get out to go for a short hike in the canyons last weekend. The canyons are beautiful as always. I soaked up as much of the scent of pine and sound of water and sight of greenery and rock outcroppings as I could.
I still try. I write in my journal every morning. I am doing some basic editing, fixing grammar and such, but the creative stuff is really difficult for me right now. I’m frustrated because I am working on a novel and I’m so close to finishing the first draft! I just sit in front of the computer and struggle to even put a single sentence to page. Journal writing, soul searching, and thinking are what I can do right now, so that’s what I am doing.
Right now, it’s a cool breezy night. My balcony doors are open and I’m kicking back with an adult beverage while penning this. Literally, I’m writing longhand, trying to connect more to it. I have to pull out all the tricks these days.
Life might be a little weird right now, but most of the little stuff hasn’t changed. That helps. I hope to get back into the swing of productive writing soon. For now, I keep doing what I’m doing, and I’m catching up on my reading. And any writer knows just how important that is.
How is everyone holding up? Please comment below. I’d love to here from you.
