Happy Monday everybody!
I hope the time change for daylight savings hasn’t screwed anyone up too bad. I had the insane notion that I was going to try and use the time change to help me get up earlier… Ha! It didn’t work. At least not this morning. I even went to bed early last night (at least according to the clock)!
I had to work my day job half the day Saturday, but the rest of the day was spent watching scary movies in deference to Halloween, the full moon, and the time change all occurring on the same night. Salt Lake City is on a no-gatherings-of-10-or-more order right now, so that meant no parties for me. It made me sad. I love Halloween. It’s my second favorite holiday after St. Pat’s.
Last weekend I was on vacation. It was my little sister’s birthday, so we took a couple days off and went out of town. It was four days of hiking, tastings at breweries and a wine shop, meeting interesting people, and a lot of laughing. It was a good break from the day to day.
I am still working on the story for the Writer’s of the Future contest that I mentioned in my last check in. It is going slow and I had a bit of a panic moment thinking about how quick December 31st is coming up. I haven’t even finished the first draft! I hoping to have the draft done by November 16th. At least that is the plan. Whether I can get my butt in gear is another story. Then it is editing, editing, editing.
Next week I am attending FyreCon, which is a writing convention out of Salt Lake. It is full of classes about improving your writing and has Master classes, workshops, and round table sessions. It is all being done online this year thanks to COVID-19, but it should be a great learning experience. I went (IRL) to one two summers ago and I loved it. It was actually the first writing convention I had ever attended. I ran across it by accident while surfing the net one day. It was happening in two weeks and I was luckily able to get the time off work to go. It was amazing. Being surrounded by other writers was incredible.
On that note, I’m looking into joining a chapter of the League of Utah writers. There are several in the area and I think it would be good for me to network and cultivate a group of like-minded individuals.
That’s all for now. Until next time.
