Hello again. I decided today… actually, right now, as I’m writing this… that I want to change the format of these check-ins. Normally, I would just ramble journal entry style about whatever happened to be on my mind. But I’d like a little more structure than that.
Welcome to the new format.
New steps (toward a Writing Career, a.k.a. the business stuff)
I’m now on Medium! Yesterday, I finally signed up for the partner program on Medium. Many of my articles are now available on Medium.com at mel-ashey-writes.medium.com. If you’d like a pain-free way of helping me out, check me out on there. If you liked what you read, give me some claps and a follow. If you are a paying member and interact with my stuff, I get a portion of your membership fee. That’s how Medium works. Follow your favorites, interact with their articles, and Medium rewards us writers with a portion of your membership fee.
And I didn’t forget non-paying members! I appreciate everyone. Most of my articles will continue to be posted on my blog, here, and imported to Medium as well, but these check-ins are exclusive to www.melasheywrites.com. Just a heads up. In the future, I will most likely also post content on Medium that I do not post on my blog due to different audiences and focus and vice versa.
The Breakdown: Whenever I do a check-in, I am going to do a mini-review and synopsis of the current book/podcast/YouTube channel that has piqued my interest.
The Start Here podcast by Mel Robbins.
I’ve been listening to it on Audible during my morning commute. I love her style. She’s blunt, but gentle. She talks on a wide range of topics including careers, relationships, toxic people, and goal setting. She explains the issues, gives some advice, and usually outlines a strategy to follow to make progress in whatever direction it is you want to go. Each episode is relatively short. I can finish most of them on my way to work (though, I listen to them on 1.5x). She calls them pep talks, and that is exactly what they for me.
I can’t recommend it enough.
Living Life: this section focuses on what’s going on with me. Musings, actions I’m taking, things I’m going through.
I’ve been decluttering. This time around, I am tackling my books… again. My personal library used to be huge. If I had to make a conservative guess, I would say at its largest I owned well over two thousand books. But over the years (mostly kicked off by not wanting to move so many books) I have been paring down my collection little by little. It started with books I had read but knew I would not read again. Now I’m down to books that have been on my TBR (to be read) shelf forever. I’m talking months or even years. Books that sound interesting and right up my alley, but I never seem to get to them. Some I need to re-evaluate as my tastes have changed. Some I just need to let go. Even if they still sound interesting. There are just too many books I find interesting. I won’t get to them all. Life is too short to be bogged down by my things.
That’s format. What do you think? Shoot me an email at mel.ashey.writes@gmail.com. Or check me out on the social meeds.
I’m trying to get the comments feature turned on for the site, but nothing is where the help articles say it should be, so I’m struggling. Hopefully that will come soon.
As always, thanks for checking out the site and I hope everything is going great for you.
