Hi guys,
I am happy to report that the weather here has been amazing. In fact, it’s been nice enough that we’ve been able to open up the windows and get some fresh air in the apartment, which is always a wonderful thing. I love springtime.
New Steps
I successfully entered my submission for the Writers of the Future Spring contest. As far as I can tell, they have yet to announce the winners from the Winter contest… I might be missing something, as the Fall winner were announced a solid two weeks before the next deadline. Nothing has been posted on the website, I haven’t received any emails about it, and nobody is saying anything on the Forum. I need to do a bit more research and find out what’s going on.
My next deadline is May 1st. It is an open call for an anthology called Cryptids Emerge. I have the perfect story that is nearly done. So, I will be focusing primarily on getting that one up to snuff and queried.
I am also researching publishers for some of my other stories that I’ve finished.
The Breakdown
Meditations by Marcus Aurelius
Marcus Aurelius was a Roman Emperor during the second century A.D. He was the last ruler during the Pax Romana and was a practicing Stoic philosopher. I was drawn to read it because it is described as a journal of thought, not dissimilar to notebooks that I keep myself. Not a diary, per se, more reminders to himself to trust in his philosophy and notes about the world around him. It was clearly not written as a teaching tool, but it certainly can be used that way. The insights in this little book are profound and simple. Universal truths that are just as relevant today as they were when he wrote about them nearly two thousand years ago. Whenever I read classic essays, it always amazes me how someone from so long ago will talk about issues and concerns that we still have today. Humans are humans, I guess. I highly recommend it for anyone who needs a reminder about what is important.
Living Life
It’s that time of year. We are spring cleaning. Decluttering has begun. Every time I do this, I am amazed by how much stuff can accumulate in such a short period of time… or maybe I am just getting more selective about what I want to have around. It’s probably both. I would hazard a guess that in the last five years I have pared down to 30% of the stuff I used to own. A lot of that is due to moving, which I have done three times in the last five years (long story that will have another chapter added to it soon, more on this in later posts).
That’s it for this round. I hope everyone is enjoying the weather wherever you are and I’ll talk to you again soon.
