Checking in 32: 05.18.21

Hi everybody! Did you miss me?

It has been around a month since I last posted anything. I finally got around to posting my April 22nd check in… this whole moving thing sucks.

New Steps

After my month hiatus, I am getting back into the swing of things. I am hoping to get a new article on Medium, update my social media, and work on some editing and new fiction writing this week. Ambitious, I know. But, as my sister pointed out to me a couple weeks ago, until I get a job here, I am technically a full-time writer. So, I better take advantage of it while I can. I see a lot of coffee and music in my future.

The Breakdown

I just started reading the first book in the Liveship Traders Trilogy by Robin Cook. I became aware of these books through watching Codie’s Book Corner on YouTube (she is my favorite booktuber). This is an epic fantasy series based around the lives of the Bingtown Trader families. The first book, Ship of Magic, is interesting so far. I’m only about a hundred pages into the over eight-hundred-page epic. The idea that wizardwood quickens and becomes sentient, hence liveships, is really cool. The cast of characters is going to be huge. I can already tell. I just hope it isn’t a Robert Jordan Wheel of Time type situation where I will eventually need a character bible to remember who everyone is.

This is the first epic fantasy series I’ve tackled in several years, so wish me luck. These books are chunkers and while I’m a pretty quick reader, I just hope I can dedicate enough time to it that I’m not getting lost every time I pick it up.

Living Life

So, I’m here. I’m finally officially living in Knoxville, Tennessee.

After three weeks, I am finally mostly settled. I have my apartment; most everything is put away; my desk is set up. I’ve taken a couple hikes up in Great Smokie Mountains National Park, which is about an hour away. It is beautiful. I have no words for how beautiful. I am applying for jobs, and I’ve had an interview, but nothing has come of it so far. There are tons of jobs available however, so, I don’t anticipate it being an issue for long (knock on wood).

There are still a few adulting type things that need to happen. Driver’s license, car registration, getting the washer balanced so it doesn’t shimmy itself to death… that kind of thing.

For fun stuff, there is a Bigfoot Convention this weekend which I hope to go to. Weather permitting.

I have a few errands to run today and some more fiction writing/editing I want to get done, so I’ll close it here for now.

As always, thanks for checking out the site and I hope everyone is doing well. If you feel so inclined, check out my social media and head over to my Medium page for exclusive content.
