Hello!
Christmas is coming up. And I’m posting this only a day late. Cool.
New Steps
NaNoWriMo is officially over.
My total for the 30 days was 61,624 words. Woot woot! And I finished first drafts for two of the five stories I was working on. I wrote an article about the experience which will come out on Friday both on the blog and on Medium.com, so don’t forget to follow me on social media. I will be posting the link once it’s live.
I’ve been doing a lot of thinking/planning on the business side of being an author. Since I’ve pretty much decided I’m going to go the self-publishing route, there is a lot to it that needs to be thought about. I will be wearing many hats that often do not have the same priorities. Writer Me needs to deal with the writing schedule and putting out great content consistently. CEO of Ashey Publishing Me needs to deal with things on the business side like creating a business plan, building a platform that reflects the brand, and creating an operation budget. Publisher Me needs to do things like finding an editor and a graphic artist, and formatting. Web developer Me needs to build a website that works with the brand and to optimize the use of SEO… you get the drift. Most of this stuff I am learning as I go.
At some point in the (hopefully) not too far future, web developer me will be revamping the website. Stay tuned.
The Breakdown
Stirring Up Trouble by Z.A. Maxfield (on Audible)
Toby is a talented sues-chef who just can’t catch a break in the fine dining world. An unfortunate mishap brings him under the scrutiny of one of the most popular food critics in the area and lands him without a job. Desperate for work after he is basically blacklisted in the haute cuisine scene, he stumbles into Le Potiron curtesy of his sister. The failing neighborhood diner specializes in organic farm to table food and only serves breakfast and lunch. His introduction to the kilt wearing cook/owner, Evan is less than stellar, but he shows up the next day and proceeds to turn Le Potiron and Evan upside down.
This story is so adorable. The way Toby turns the restaurant around is fantastic and unique. There are a couple places where the story seems to rush ahead without proper build up in my opinion, but overall, it is a delightful story. Certainly entertaining. The story continues in All Stirred Up book 2, which features Evan’s twin brother Brendon.
Living Life
Something about this week has made me lazy. Like I’m still getting over my four-day Thanksgiving food hangover… even though it’s been two weeks. It’s been better the last couple of days though, so here's hoping.
I got some potentially interesting news at work today. And some praise, which is always nice. Ego boosts are welcome.
That’s it for this week. Check back for updates and as always, thanks for checking out the site and I hope everyone is doing well. If you feel so inclined, check out my social media and head over to Medium.com for exclusive content.
