Hello, hello, hello.

New Steps

I haven’t made any more progress on the cover design front. The artist I was communicating with hasn’t contacted me in several days. We had been talking design and she sounded on board but has since dropped off the planet. So… yeah. I sent a follow up, but if I don’t hear from her in the next couple days, I think I’m going to start looking for someone else.

My word counts have been lower this week than they have been the last several. I hit a difficult part of the story I’m working on. Emotionally difficult. I’m at the point where I’m just trying to get words on the page. They will not be pretty, but it will at least give me something to work with.

I haven’t touched my novel in over a month. I just printed the next hundred pages to edit. I’m taking it on vacation with me just in case I am in the mood.

The Breakdown

Kestrel’s Chance by Harper Fox

Kestrel and Rory are elite climbing partners working for the Scotland Wester Fleet’s Mountain Rescue Team. Rory is the calm, dependable rope man who’s good with people while Kes is the daredevil, risk taker who doesn’t deal with them if he can help it. Rory also happens to be in love with his partner. He’s never told Kes due to the non-fraternization rules. Kes is up for a promotion, but his lack of social skills puts doubt on his suitability for the job. To give him a chance to prove himself, he and Rory accept a mission to take a pair of French tourists up the mountain. Things don’t go quite as planned.

I enjoyed this book. It wasn’t awesome, but it was entertaining. I will say though, there was a twist that was just not right. I found myself pissed off on Kes’s behalf. I can’t imagine anyone getting away with doing it in real life.

I listened to it on audiobook. Unfortunately, I was distracted for the first few chapters, because the book is set in Scotland, but the narrator didn’t use a Scottish accent. It was explained why later in the book, but until it was it threw me.

Living Life

I am cutting the check in short this week because I am prepping to head out of town tomorrow for a short birthday vacation. My hotel is booked. I’m working on being packed. My MP3 player is charged and loaded. And I’ve done my research. Four days of waterfalls, wine, and good food. So far, it looks like the weather will cooperate. I’m hoping to get out for a little hiking. As mentioned before, I want to log a couple of waterfalls. There are several in the area that look beautiful. Not a lot of hiking involved, but some. And that’s okay because it’s raining today, so it will probably be muddy. Plus, it’s not going to be super warm. Between waterfalls, there are a few shops and wineries I plan to visit as well.

Bonus! It will be a nice three hour drive each way. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I love to drive. My favorite way to do it is ball cap on, windows down, music up, driving through the country. It might be a bit cool for the windows to be down, but it should be good anyway. It is my therapy. Well, driving and the woods. I should get a double dose this trip.

As always, thanks for checking out the site, and I hope everyone is doing well. If you feel so inclined, check out my social media.
