Hi guys. Another quick one.
Current word count on Desert Home is: 8544.
I have 6456 words to go to meet my 15,000 word goal for Camp NaNoWriMo. So, I’m over half done!
I am well ahead of schedule for the writing, which is great because I still need to edit. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it), I am discovering the story has much more depth and intrigue than I originally thought. I’m not sure the 15,000 words I estimated will be enough to tell the entire story. If that turns out to be the case, even though I might get the writing done I don’t know if I will be able to get the editing and formatting done before my August 1st publishing deadline.
I’m not ready to postpone yet, but the more I write, the more the story reveals itself. Some of it is highly emotional stuff, which may have been why I inadvertently skipped over it in the past. I wonder if I didn’t have the words, or if I just didn’t have the capacity to understand the depth of the effect certain events would have on someone. Being older and more experienced now, these seem obvious to me. The holes in the story are glaring and I’m trying to capture the emotions as best I can, even if that means I won’t meet the deadline. Now that I’m deep in it, I don’t want to cut it off. If there is more going on in the story, then it needs to be told. While it sucks that I might have to push back the deadline, in the end I know it will make for a better story. At the end of the day, that is what is most important.
That’s it from me this week.
I hope everyone is doing well and I’ll post again soon.
